Family Circumstances:

She was born into a family of two children. Her older brother had to leave early with their mother to work as a hired laborer in Lâm Đồng, while she has lived with her maternal grandmother since she was small. Her grandmother is old and frail and cannot do anything; apart from the 30kg of rice the commune People's Committee gives poor households each month, the two of them depend on whatever money her mother manages to earn and send home. When there is none, they borrow and wait to pay it back once her mother has earned some. Life is a constant struggle to make ends meet, yet Trần Thị Hồng Nhung has kept rising to the top of her class, achieving outstanding results for many years in a row and receiving award after award at every level. Each year she is given only a few notebooks; beyond that, she has never received any support for her education.

This school year she has moved up to 6th grade at Tân Lập Lower Secondary School – Đồng Phú – Bình Phước. She is currently struggling to pay for her schooling, so Y Tam will sponsor a full scholarship so that she can keep going to school.
