Wrapping all our donors' kindness into each simple, humble Tết (Lunar New Year) gift of rice, cooking oil, sugar and fish sauce, we, the children of the big Y Tam family, made light of the long road, riding more than 120 km through the night by motorbike all the way to Đức Linh, Bình Thuận, to hand these gifts to the villagers in person.

The Y Tam team is ready.

When we asked the villagers whether they had bought anything or prepared anything to welcome Tết, they all answered: “What is there to buy, miss? We don't even have enough to eat, so how can we think about Tết….”

We could not help feeling a pang of sadness: for these villagers, Tết is just like any other day….

We handed out 120 gift packages, gathered at 3 points, in Nam Hà, Trà Tân and Võ Đắc communes, to make distribution easier for everyone. We focused on elderly people living alone and people with disabilities who cannot work… Among them were households that receive monthly rice from Y Tam.

Receiving the gifts, the elderly were overjoyed. They even came up to share their joy and sing together with us. They told us to always smile, because life is short: just keep smiling, why be sad….

Happy smiles

We know that when you give, you receive in return, and what comes from the heart reaches the heart. The elderly gave us boundless happiness and made us, in our youth, realize that nothing in life is more precious than love, a language that even the deaf can hear and the blind can see.
