We thought that with the rain tonight, we would not be able to hold the lantern procession and Mid-Autumn fun with the children…
And yet the children still came, some in hats, some in raincoats, some wrapped in jackets, arriving in ever greater numbers. They were looking forward to the campfire and to lighting their lanterns.
The Y Tam volunteers could not let the children down. Never mind the rain: we went around asking for dry firewood for the campfire, since all of ours had got soaked.
30 minutes later, the rain eased, the fire was blazing and the lanterns were lit!!!!
If you had seen more than 400 lanterns glowing in the night, you would understand how Y Tam felt at that moment: it was both sacred and deeply moving. A beauty that tugs at your heart!
Our hearts went out to the children: when the rain was heavy, they all had to crowd into the school corridors until it eased before they could go out into the yard to play. They kept on playing and did not want to go home at all.
The children and their parents had never seen lanterns like Y Tam's before, and watching the children cradle and treasure their lanterns made us incredibly happy
