A Dazzling Highland Spring Festival – Đăk Nông 2018

“Only when I sat wrapping bánh tét with Y Tam and watched everyone prepare the spring festival did I really feel the spirit of Tết; around here there's nothing yet.” “Several groups have come here before, but none has put on anything as grand and as fun as Y Tam”

These words were shared by local teachers and parents in Phi Lơ Te village as they took part in Y Tam's spring festival

On 2-3/2/2018, Y Tam held the Highland Spring Festival program for villagers and children in Phi Lơ Te village, Đăk Ngo commune, Tuy Đức district, Đăk Nông, with a success beyond all expectations. The Highland Spring Festival took place in a bustling, eager atmosphere, with the children, parents, teachers and Y Tam members all decked out in colorful outfits that brightened up the festival.

“Although the villagers in the places we go still face great hardship and lack so much, we want to bring everyone a truly joyful, happy spring atmosphere, so that we can all feel spring arriving full of hope, rather than a simple charity program full of heartbreaking images” – shared Ms. Nguyệt Đình Khôi, Head of Y Tam.

Bright, joyful moments at the spring festival

In just 2 days, with 55 volunteers, we completed the following activities:

– Repainted and repaired 1 primary school with 4 classrooms and 2 kindergartens with 6 classrooms

– Wrapped and cooked more than 200 rolls of bánh tét to give to the villagers

– Played games and held a campfire with 300 children

– Held a spring festival with more than 10 food stalls and folk game booths

– Gave 120 Tết gift packages, each including 10 kg of rice, cooking oil, fish sauce, sugar and soy sauce, to the families of disadvantaged primary and kindergarten students in the village.

Y Tam also created a space for learning, bonding and sharing for the volunteers and the sponsors who accompanied the program.
