Family circumstances:

Since the day she was born, Nhớ has never once seen her father's face. The family is poor; without a steady job, her mother scrapes by selling lottery tickets and spends part of her time helping out at a rice eatery near home, all so that Nhớ can have enough to eat and go to school every day.

Her income has never been stable, and every month she still has to cover rent, food, transport and Nhớ's schooling, while she herself is often ill. With no help to count on from relatives, her face has grown weathered beyond her years. Yet whenever Nhớ's school results are mentioned, that careworn face lights up with a radiant smile.

Nhớ not only does well at school, she also gets along with her classmates, often helps her friends and joins in every school and class activity. When she gets home, she puts down her school bag, quickly tidies the house and prepares a simple meal herself while waiting for her mother to come home from work.

When we visited her one afternoon in the soft sunlight, her cheerful face, friendly smile and bright, quick eyes all showed a longing for a bright tomorrow. That is what drives Y Tam to carry out the work of “nurturing people for the next hundred years”.

Y Tam hopes to receive the support of donors near and far, joining hands with Y Tam to nurture the seedlings of our country.
