Y Tam Education Support Project – Lantern Festival 2018

I/ PROGRAM MESSAGE

The moon season of childhood is coming…

While battery-powered lanterns with lights and music are on sale everywhere, Y Tam remains loyal to lanterns made from beer cans.

We told one another: let's just give the children can lanterns to play with, they're eco-friendly. We all went through childhood, and the clinking and clanging of cans knocking together brings back memories of days long past. On top of that, they protect the environment and save money…
And so every autumn we keep making lanterns; this is now our 4th season for the full moon of the 8th lunar month. We simply call them Y Tam lanterns, as plain and simple as Y Tam itself.

“Lantern Festival” is also the name of Y Tam's annual Mid-Autumn program. This year Y Tam will hold it in Đăk Buk So commune, Tuy Đức district, Đăk Nông.

Autumn is also back-to-school season, so Y Tam is continuing our education support project, sponsoring scholarships for students in Bình Dương and Bình Phước for the 2018-2019 school year:

– Program overview:

+ Full scholarship sponsorship for 9 students in Bình Dương and Bình Phước
+ Give 350 gift packages of school supplies, cakes, candy and milk to the children
+ Hold a Mid-Autumn Festival with a campfire and lantern procession with 350 ethnic minority children

II/ DETAILED ACTIVITIES

1/ Scholarship sponsorship for 9 students (detailed in a separate, updated project file): 34,900,000 VND

– Field visits and reports 3 times a year: 1,500,000 VND
– Mid-year get-together and outing for the children: 2,000,000 VND
– Certificates of merit and printing of project documents: 1,000,000 VND
– Travel and phone allowance for volunteers for 1 year: 4,000,000 VND

Total 1-year budget for the education support project: 34,900,000 VND

2/ Give 350 school supply packages, each with 5 pens + 5 notebooks
– 1750 notebooks * 3,200 VND each = 5,600,000 VND
– 1750 purple-ink pens * 2,500 VND each = 4,375,000 VND
3/ Give 350 gift packages of cakes, candy and milk to the children: 7,000,000 VND

– 7 cartons of fresh milk
– 350 portions of mooncakes
– Candy and snacks for games

4/ Hold a Mid-Autumn Festival with a campfire and lantern procession with 300 ethnic minority children: 
– Organizing costs: 3,000,000 VND
– Cooking bánh canh noodle soup and herbal drink for 350 children: 2,000,000 VND

5/ Transport: 8,000,000 VND

-One 45-seat coach: 8,000,000 VND

TOTAL ESTIMATED BUDGET AND IN-KIND DONATIONS FOR THE PROGRAM: 1+2+3+4+5 = 64,875,000 VND

III/ TRANSPORT, SCHEDULE AND VENUE

1/ Transport: 45-seat coach

2/ Planned schedule: Depart from Saigon on Saturday morning, 22/9, and return on Sunday afternoon, 23/09/2018 (the organizing team will send you a detailed itinerary later)

The program needs 40 members and volunteers to sign up and join hands with Y Tam to put on a truly meaningful Mid-Autumn celebration for the ethnic minority children here.

-The participation fee for each member is: 250,000 VND (covering transport + meals).
