Y Tam Education Support Project: “Lantern Festival”

I/ PROGRAM MESSAGE
Every year, as autumn comes around, Y Tam volunteers busy themselves making lanterns out of beer cans to give to ethnic minority children, and hold a moonlit night glowing with candlelight, leaving the children with some of their most beautiful memories.
This year's Lantern Festival program will be held in Đồng Tiến commune, Đồng Phú district, Bình Phước, and it also marks the 4th year that Y Tam has carried out the Y Tam Education Support project in Bình Phước province, as well as the project's expansion into Bình Dương province
Y Tam will sponsor 11 students in Bình Dương and Bình Phước who come from families in hardship and are at risk of dropping out, but who are good students and love learning
In addition, Y Tam sees a real need to teach the children here skills to protect themselves from child sexual abuse, so in this program Y Tam will weave that message into games for the children.

II/ DETAILS
1/ Scholarship sponsorship for 11 students for the 2017-2018 school year
This is the 4th year that Y Tam has sponsored the education costs of students who have been thoroughly assessed on their academic record, family and school and, most importantly, on their diligence and love of learning. We keep a separate file for each child so that we can regularly follow their progress and encourage them to study and grow into people who contribute in the future.
In 2016 we sponsored 6 students; in 2017 we stopped sponsoring 1 student and added 6 new ones. The sponsorship amount is based on actual needs: tuition, school supplies and other fees.

School supplies for all 11 students for 1 year:
- 120 four-line notebooks of 96 pages + 40 four-line notebooks of 200 pages + 54 five-line notebooks of 96 pages = 828,800 VND
– 120 blue ballpoint pens = 300,000 VND
– 80 purple ballpoint pens = 200,000 VND
– 4 gel ink pens = 12,000 VND
– 4 pencils = 5,000 VND

TOTAL SPONSORSHIP COST: 37,245,800 VND
- Sponsorship fund: 27,900,000 VND
- School supplies: 1,345,800 VND
- Implementation costs: 8,000,000 VND

2/ 220 gifts of school supplies, sweets and milk for the children: 7,569,000 VND
- For school supplies, each child will receive 5 notebooks + 5 pens + an eraser, a pencil and a small slate
- 1,100 notebooks, made up of 930 four-line and 170 five-line notebooks = 3,520,000 VND (at 3,200 VND per notebook)
- 558 purple ballpoint pens = 1,395,000 VND
- 220 pencils = 264,000 VND
- 220 erasers = 220,000 VND
- 34 small slates = 170,000 VND

Total: 5,569,000 VND
– Sweets for the 220 gifts: estimated at about 2,000,000 VND

3/ Rice for 30 ethnic minority households in especially difficult circumstances: 6,000,000 VND
Each household is expected to receive 20 kg of rice, 600 kg in total = 6,000,000 VND (at 10,000 VND per kg)

4/ Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, campfire and lantern procession with 300 ethnic minority children: 3,457,100 VND
- Stage decorations: 620,000 VND
Stationery
(survey forms, sticky notes, wire…): 70,000 VND
- Games: 1,000,000 VND
- Food and herbal drinks for the children, 200 servings: 1,657,100 VND
- Contingency medical costs: 110,000 VND

5/ Transport: 8,000,000 VND
- One 30-seat coach: 6,000,000 VND
- One cargo truck, if needed: 2,000,000 VND
