SOLAR LIGHTS FOR VILLAGES PROJECT – ĐẮK NÔNG

Bu Prăng 1 and Đắk Huýt villages, Quảng Trực commune, Đắk Nông

Time: 8-9/2025

I/ CURRENT SITUATION

Bu Prăng 1 and Đắk Huýt villages, in Quảng Trực commune, Lâm Đồng (formerly Đắk Nông province), lie right on the border with Cambodia and are home to the M’Nông people. Bu Prăng 1 has 94 households (346 residents, 76 of them poor households), and Đắk Huýt has 685 households (2,425 residents, 191 poor and near-poor households). Altogether, 988 children under the age of 16 live here.

Project: Solar Lights for Villages, Round 2 – Quảng Trực, Đăk Nông 9/2025

At present, the two villages have no street lighting, so people have to travel in the dark and face the risk of traffic accidents (according to local statistics, 12 traffic accidents have happened over the past 2 years because of the lack of light). Children are afraid to go out to play or study in the evening, the elderly usually stay indoors, and women and men struggle to get home after a day's work. The lack of light also creates opportunities for social ills, affecting the safety of the community

Ms. Ka H’Lý, a M’Nông woman in Đắk Huýt village, shared: “Every evening when I come home from work, I have to carry a flashlight, but the road is slippery and very dangerous. I worry about my children having to go to school in the dark.” This is not just a material hardship but also a major barrier to the community's sustainable development. Light is now a vital need to protect the villages.

II/ PURPOSE AND MEANING OF THE PROJECT

The project will install 150 solar light poles along 5 km of village roads, lighting every road and guiding every dream of the M’Nông people:

  • Road safety: Ensuring that 2,771 residents (346 in Bu Prăng 1 and 2,425 in Đắk Huýt) can travel safely, and especially that 988 children no longer have to fear accidents at night.
  • Community safety: Light drives away the darkness and pushes back social ills, bringing peace to 779 families and, in particular, protecting girls from the risk of abuse.
  • Quality of life: Children can study and play; residents feel safer, easing the burden of earning a living amid danger.
  • Environmental protection: Using solar energy cuts 1.5 tonnes of CO2 each year, saving costs and building a green future for the next generation.

This is not just an infrastructure project but a journey to bring peace, hope and a bright future to the M’Nông people of Bu Prăng 1 and Đắk Huýt villages.
