Launching the long-term project Y Tam Kitchen: Sharing Rice, held once every 2 weeks: on the upcoming 29/11/2015, we will cook 200 meals together to give to poor workers who have left home to make a living in this bustling city of Saigon.

We know a lunch is a very simple thing, but what we hope for is not only to give them a tasty, filling, heartwarming meal, but also to bring joy and smiles to them, as well as to all of us, Y Tam's members and volunteers.

There is one difference, however: instead of giving the meals away completely “free”, we encourage people to share whatever they wish, perhaps just 1,000, 2,000 or 5,000 VND, an amount within their means, and they themselves will put it into the “SHARING RICE” fundraising box. This fund will be used to keep buying rice, both for the kitchen and to give out to the poor, people with disabilities and elderly people who can no longer work.

I/ Schedule:

1/ Time:

– 4-6 a.m. on Sunday 29/11/2015: Y Tam members will go to the wholesale market themselves to buy ingredients for the kitchen:

+ 6-8 a.m.: prepare the ingredients and get the kitchen equipment ready.

+ 8-10 a.m.: cook the food

+ 10 a.m.: pack the meals into boxes.

+ 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.: the meals will be taken to the distribution points.

In addition, during this round Y Tam will also hold a piggy-bank-smashing festival to raise funds for building a bridge in Phụng Hiệp, Hậu Giang.

The festival is expected to start at 2 p.m. and end at 5 p.m. We will announce the amount raised and use all of it for the rural bridge project in Phụng Hiệp, Hậu Giang this coming December.
