Just back from the flood-hit areas of Central Vietnam, we were troubled once again by the plight of poor villagers in Suối Nhung hamlet, Tân Hưng commune, Đồng Phú, Bình Phước. Students here still have no notebooks to take to school, and families are still toiling quietly just to put food on the table each day. Is there anything Y Tam can do to help them?

Join me in bringing Tết to poor villagers

Through our field survey on 5/1/2017, we learned that Suối Nhung is a rather poor hamlet in Tân Hưng commune, Đồng Phú. All year round, people here toil as hired laborers and farmhands, yet earn barely enough to get by. Poverty and hunger weigh on them so heavily that they have forgotten our nation's Tết (Lunar New Year), forgotten the happiness that everyone else enjoys.
On top of that, the students here lack notebooks and pens for school, and the school is old and dilapidated, unable to hold up against stormy days. And the children here have no Tết either

WE WILL TAKE ACTION FOR A MORE MEANINGFUL TẾT

To bring the villagers here a warmer, happier Tết than in years past, Y Tam has decided to carry out the Highland Spring Festival – Tân Hưng, Bình Phước program. There, together, we will bring the villagers and students a whole new kind of spring compared with previous years, with activities such as:

– Repainting and repairing all the classrooms at the Tân Hưng commune primary–secondary school site

– Giving 69 Tết gift packages to 69 poor households, including: bánh tét (sticky rice cakes), rice, cooking oil, sugar, fish sauce… and cakes and candied fruit (if available)

– Giving nearly 200 gifts to students, including: notebooks, exercise books, pens, cakes, candy and milk.

– Holding a spring festival for the villagers and children here, with activities such as game booths, free food stalls, contests, and dancing and singing for everyone to mingle and have fun together.

– Y Tam will also cook bánh tét, light a campfire and play with the children, and hand out clothes to the villagers

=>> Wow… spring everywhere. Just imagining it makes Y Tam so happy already.

To make the spring festival meaningful and full of happiness, Y Tam calls on all our donors, benefactors and friends to join hands with Y Tam! Let's work together to help the villagers and children here have a happier, more meaningful and more joyful Tết…
